After meeting Josie Stern, you can’t help but feel that if you’re buying or selling a home, you want her on your side. A no-nonsense REALTOR® who exudes confidence, she feels passionately about her responsibility to her clients.
When working with sellers she strives to get top dollar for your most valued asset and works diligently to ensure a stress-free experience. When working with buyers, she works feverishly to find you the right house all the while counselling you to be patient but ready to act, to be excited but not emotional – buying a house is a big deal.
Josie honed her business skills at Sanyo Canada, a company that generated $200 million dollars in annual sales, from 1975 to 1989. She started her career in an entry-level position but her dedicated nature and sharp mind made senior management take notice. Within 10 years, she was promoted to become the first woman executive as Director, Information Systems. She was responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, and management of information systems across Canada. This position helped her sharpen her analytical and critical thinking skills which she puts to good use every day.
In 1989, she left Sanyo to pursue her true passion: real estate. Starting a new career in a downward-spiralling market was no easy task, but it didn’t faze her one bit. Her work ethic and tenacious nature kicked in and she set out to implement all the skills she had learned in the business world. Josie’s belief that persistence, hard work and a positive attitude would prevail helped her thrive during this recessionary period.

A month after joining the business, she got her first listing in an area that is now known as Hillcrest Village. She soon realized that real estate values in Hillcrest did not reflect what this gem of an area had to offer. So she promoted it and became an “ambassador” of the area touting its community, location, proximity to downtown, beautiful architecture and treed streets. In fact, to date, Josie has sold over 1,300 homes in Hillcrest Village.
Josie’s results-oriented approach was recognized in 2002 by the Toronto Star when they featured her as “a personality that influences a neighbourhood” and “a real estate agent with a mission.” They recognized that through her hard work over the last 13 years, Hillcrest Village had become a trendy and desirable area. Fourteen months after this article was written, the same newspaper reported that this area was one of two that had appreciated the most in central Toronto that year.
Over the years, Josie has expanded her activities to many areas of central Toronto. However, Hillcrest Village is where she launched her successful real estate career therefore it will always have a special place in her heart.
Josie exemplifies all the qualities a successful agent should display: credibility, confidence, compassion, effective negotiating skills, and sound judgement. Beyond all that, it is her honest and caring personality, humanity, and attention to detail that results in Josie’s clients having complete trust in her. In all she does, she tries to be the level-headed one in the room. She is a great communicator and a great listener who knows the process of buying and selling is a stressful one for her clients and tries to make them feel at ease by displaying compassion, confidence, and leadership.
Josie loves meeting people from different cultures, religions, and socio-economic backgrounds. She believes in giving back to the community and she often volunteers her time and fundraises for causes that are important to her. It brings her a tremendous feeling of fulfillment when she knows she has made a difference in people’s lives.
